Pure Pens and the Environment

Ross Adams |

Here at Pure Pens we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment as much as possible.

We are proud to supply eco-friendly stationery to our customers so we are all able to make conscientious choices.

Diamine - Their 80ml bottles are made from glass and are made in the UK, so have a lesser carbon footprint than others.

Noodler's Ahab, Nib Creaper and Dixie fountain pens are all non-plastic items so are ultimately biodegradable. They do not take single use ink cartridges.

Leather Free Pen Cases are made from materials that do not contain animal products.

Rhodia notebooks are made from renewable sourced paper that has been ethically produced as to not impact on the environment.

If you are looking to reduce your plastic use these are the brands that bottle their ink in glass bottles rather than plastic; Colorverse, De Atramentis, Diamine, Dominant Industry, Ferris Wheel Press, J. Herbin, Kaweco, KWZ, Lamy, Noodler's, Parker, Pelikan, Pilot, Private Reserve, Pure Pens, Rohrer & Klingner, Sailor, TWSBI, Vinta, Waterman and Wearingeul.

Don't forget that using bottled ink rather than single use ink cartridges produces less unnecessary waste and you can always find a much larger choice of ink colour in bottled ink!

What are we doing?

We are proud to be from Wales and equally proud of our amazing recycling statistics. Wales is recognised as one of the world's leader in recycling ranking third globally! Newport (our hometown) ranks the best recycling city in the UK, recycling nearly 70% of it's waste compared to the national average of just 41%!

We of course do our little bit within the office, we separate our rubbish and recycling, just as households do in accordance with a new Welsh government law brought in in April 2024.

We recycle all the packaging our deliveries arrive in; we use the cardboard that items are delivered in to create insulation for sending out fragile items such as glass ink bottles. We also reuse any bubble wrap or paper packaging when packing up our orders. We also use fully carbon-neutral aroFOL packaging for all the orders we send to customers. This has helped us make our order fulfilment process as environmentally-friendly as possible. We also ask you reuse any packaging we send where possible or recycle it.

What can you do?

Swapping from a cartridge filling system to using bottled ink would be a great place to start. Not only would you be helping the environment in reducing single use plastics you would also be greatly enriching your writing experience with the huge choice of ink colours on offer!

You could find a new use for your used ink bottles. They could become storage pots for little craft supplies or a flower pot. You could become your own alchemist and use an empty bottle to mix up your own ink colour.

Reusing or recycling any packaging we send your orders out in as well as the packaging the pens and inks come in.
